Are you still a little sceptical? Then take a look at some recent research.

In the winter of 1996 a major surgical needle manufacturer let us use their lab to test the penetrability (sharpness) of various "ultra sharp" hooks. (This is a public company whose needles go for over $100 each!) The hooks tested were of the same wire diameter and finish - the only difference was the design of the points.

The results surprised everyone involved! The next best was a top needle point brand design from Japan. It took 350 grams of force to penetrate from the tip of the point to the tip of the barb. The XPoint took only 50 grams. That's Seven Times Sharper!

Weedless Drop Shot’n Tips
By Rich Tauber

Drop Shot'n
  • The Rig
Drop Shot'n is the new tournament winning technique that allows a longer presentation in the Bass's habitat.

  • The Hook
XPoints' penetrate up to SEVEN times faster than ordinary hooks! The light wire allows more action too!

  • The Knot
Simply tie the Palomar knot with a 2-3' long tag end. Thread the tag end through the back of the knot through the eye.

  • The Lure
Choose your favourite Worm or Grub. Remember, the smaller the better.

  • The Weight
Now attach the tag end from the palomar knot to the sinker. While any 1/16th or 1/8th ounce "Bass Casting" weight will do, you will get better performance from a special Drop Shot weight like the Bakudan.

  • The Tackle
A medium action rod rigged with 4-10 point line is best. The lighter the line, the more action and bites you'll get.

  • Cast
Make a cast and watch your line. Don't forget this will work in water 1' to 80' dep. When line goes slack you've reached the bottom. Continue this motion during this sweep. When you feel a soft tap or heaviness, set the hook!

  • Catch
Now that you've set the hook, keep a steady pressure on the fish. Take your time and enjoy the battle. Don't forget to practice Catch Photograph and Release!

Good Fishing!
