Tasmanian Devil’s
“The winged wonder from down under”
Tasmanian Devil fishing lures have been manufactured since the late
1970’s by Wigstons Lures in Hobart, Tasmania. It is the number one
selling fresh water lure and number two overall in Australia. The Devil
is currently exported to most countries worldwide, catching most species
of fish in both fresh and salt water. The lures come in six sizes and
over 100 colour combinations. They are designed for trolling, casting or
jigging. Their unique wing design causes the lure to move in an
irregular manner darting and diving erratically in the water attracting
the fish.
This action is transmitted to the rod tip with a nodding action, so
you know the lure is doing its trick.
If the motion is not there, you have something on your line.
The ¼, ½, ¾, and 1 ounce designs can be used with the loose flight
stainless steel center, or with a line-through rigging design. These
methods prevent the fish from throwing the hook because the lure body
can slide up the line away from the fish.
Tasmanian Devil’s have proven effective on all species including brown
and rainbow trout, steelhead, salmon, walleye, pike, bass, flathead, pan
fish, among others.
The Little Devil (1/4 oz.) is one of the more popular lures and is ideal
form the smaller rivers, streams and lakes. Recommended trolling speed
while using the little devil is 2.4 miles per hour.
The original Tassie Devil (1/2 oz.) was the first developed of the
lures. It is best described as an all around lure, good for trolling,
casting, down rigging or jigging. The additional weight helps with the
cast ability. The suggested trolling speed with the Tassie Devil
is 2.75 miles per hour.
The Big Devil (1oz.) is designed for larger fish and is also known for
trolling, down rigging, jigging or casting. Ideal speed for trolling
with the big devil is 3.5 miles per hour. Lead core lines or down
riggers can be used to increase the trolling depth.
The Salty Devil is a relatively new lure added to the Tasmanian Devil
ling of lures. They come in two sizes, 1 ½ ounces and 2 ½ ounces;
with 4 available colours, blue, green, red and yellow, with silver
wings. These devils are a weighty metal version of the original design
demonstrating the same action in the water. They allow for
great casting and retrieval.
