Aqua-Vu "How will Aqua-Vu help me to catch more fish?"
About 40 years ago, sonar units began helping anglers "see" the ups, downs, ins, and outs of fishing structure. But let’s be up front. We didn’t see anything! We often talked about the presence of this or that structure as indicated on depth finder dials. But we didn’t eyeball the rocks on a rock reef, the grass on a sunken island, or the root system of a submerged stump. And we never actually saw the unidentified "fish" we marked on our flashers and graphs.

Modern angling pioneers like Al and Ron Lindner, Roland Martin, Gary Roach, Ted Takasaki and Dave Genz have taught millions of anglers that successful fishing depends on knowledge, not luck. What do these legendary anglers have in common? For one thing, they were fishing back when depth finders debuted. Since then, they’ve turned decades of fishing trips into thousands of learning experiences.

These days, Al, Ron, Roland, Gary, Ted and Dave insist on seeing what’s really down there! They’re learning more than ever — and finding and catching more fish! — thanks to their Aqua-Vu Underwater Viewing Systems.

Whether pre-fishing for the next tournament or ice fishing for bluegills, you’ll learn more from the real picture! Aqua-Vu solves mysteries and reveals details that lead to better fishing. Here are just a few ways Aqua-Vu can help you become a more successful angler:

VIEW BOTTOM TERRAIN.
Modern sonar units can signal changes from hard to soft bottom. But unlike Aqua-Vu, sonar fails to show transitions from tiny pebbles to 2-inch stones to 6-inch rocks. Nor can sonar identify aquatic vegetation.

IDENTIFY FISH.
With depth finders and graphs, "walleyes" that mark tight to the bottom could be carp or suckers. Suspended off-bite "bass" might be catfish. Aqua-Vu helps you fish for the right fish!

INSPECT BRUSH PILES, STUMPS, DOCKS, AND PIERS.
A visual inspection of submerged roots and wood enables better-targeted casts. Prospecting around underwater dock and pier construction helps eliminate fishless spots.

LOCATE PRIME WEED LINE JUNCTIONS.
With Aqua-Vu you can see your way along weed line contours. Also, view clumps of vegetation, gravel spines, and other precise structure that intersects with the basic weed edge — key fish-holding magnets!

PEER BENEATH VEGETATION MATS.
Look under matted vegetation and undercut banks to reveal fish location and openings in the weeds — advantages in planning where and how to drop a line.

BETTER UNDERSTAND SONAR READINGS.
Simultaneous use of Aqua-Vu and sonar, two indispensable angling tools, allows you to more reliably interpret sonar readings.

ENJOY NEW FUN AND LEARNING.
With Aqua-Vu, make the most out of your day on the water. There’s hardcore learning about rock reefs, weed beds, and how fish relate to structure. Also, discover fascinating adventure and fun in exploring the mysteries of a lake bottom and actually seeing fish in their underwater habitats. Some Aqua-Vu users enjoy "viewing" more than fishing!

A surprise for some is that crystal-clear water clarity is not a requirement for effective viewing. What you see is more important than how far you see. Just 2 feet of visibility is usually sufficient for studying bottom structure.
-----------------------------------------------------Aqua-Vu "Frequently Asked Questions ... Answered"

How fast can I troll with my camera?

The answer to this question depends on depth and the length of cable you have out, which determines water resistance. The deeper you go, with more cable going through the water, the more drag or "water resistance" there will be. Increased cable length and resulting drag require slower travel for good viewing. Generally, for best viewing we recommend going less than two miles per hour. Remember, the slower you go the more detail you will see. Also, when trolling forward use special caution to avoid getting camera and cable caught in a boat’s propeller, rudder, or underside rigging.

How far can I see?
Naturally, the clearer the water the farther you can see. As a general rule the camera will "see" two times farther than the human eye in water. If you can see 3 feet down you will be able to see approximately 6 feet with the camera. This is a general rule and all bodies of water will vary. For anglers, two feet of visibility is sufficient for studying bottom structure with an underwater camera.

Will my Aqua-Vu work in subfreezing conditions?
Aqua-Vu systems are designed to operate at temperatures from -40 to 120 F. Expect your battery life to decrease in cold conditions.

How Do I Steer the Camera?
For viewing in the direction of travel, use the Front Viewing Fin. With the Front Viewing Fin attached to the back of the camera, slowly troll (less than 2 mph) or drift along the structure you intend to observe. Thanks to the Fin, your camera will face the direction of the boat’s travel. The opposite holds true when using the Back Viewing Fin accessory. With the Back Viewing Fin, you will be looking "backwards," or in the opposite direction of the boats travel.

What is the camera's angle of view?
Your camera lens has a viewing angle of 92 degrees. At 4-1/2 feet in front of the camera you will view an image approximately 6 feet wide.

Can I splice the camera cable to obtain more length?
No. Attempting to splice in additional cable violates the waterproof integrity of the camera and cable, voiding the warranty.

Can I use my Aqua-Vu in saltwater?
Yes. All Aqua-Vu cameras are saltwater-rated. They are constructed with stainless steel hardware and materials that are impervious to corrosion.

What is the resolution of my monitor screen?
Your screen has 420-line resolution for crystal-clear viewing.

Can I hook my Aqua-Vu up to a larger monitor or hand-held recorder?
Yes. Your Aqua-Vu can be hooked up to a larger external TV, provided it has a "video-in" jack. The same holds true for a hand-held video recorder. Because of its compatibility with television and video recorders, Aqua-Vu is ideal for use in a winter fish house or large boat with a built-in video system.

 Is Aqua-Vu Legal?
To our knowledge there are no restrictions anywhere that regulate the use of Aqua-Vu underwater viewing systems. Aqua-Vu is an approved pre-fishing tool for B.A.S.S. tournaments, In-Fisherman PWT events, and other professional tournament circuits across the country.

Can I purchase an Aqua-Vu Sytem directly from Nature Vision?
Only accessories (& Refurbished models) may be purchased from Nature Vision directly. Aqua-Vu units may be purchased from participating Sporting Goods Stores.

What is the difference between Infrared and Spectral Response lighting?
Infrared is a non-visible light and is meant for dawn/dusk/deeper water. Spectral Response is much more intense and a better choice for anglers that will use their camera after dark, along with dawn/dusk/deep water.
